At In Posse we find inspiration for our work exists all around us. In an effort to share our individual inspirations with the In Posse team, we have created an Inspiration wall in our office where all members can post articles and images of what inspires them. Here is a small collection of our inspirations.

Next time you stop by our office also feel free to check out our full inspiration wall.

This map helps us see the world from a new point of view and hopefully, break down our preconceptions, open our eyes to new possibilities and help us take advantage of previously overlooked opportunities.

Sometimes the most overlooked things in life are the things we see everyday. I feel that one of the most important things I can do in life is help people see their world in a different way.

I find inspiration in many things around me. I spend much of my free time out on the river rowing. Every morning I get up early to go to practice, but I make sure that every day I take time to also appreciate the world around me as I row. I love to take in the views. Just as you shove off the dock of boathouse row you see all the trees and the river and you also get one of the most amazing views of the Philadelphia skyline. I make sure to take time everyday to appreciate that view. It is a view of our buildings and nature all blended into one frame. In that perfect picture they look like they exist in harmony. I hope to someday be able design buildings that truly coexist with nature.

I’ve had an intuition that my actions impacted the broader environment for a long time. When I was in elementary school, I bugged and bothered my parents to make sure our family recycled everything possible!

My concern for environmental changes crystallized during my college years. I visited Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic and saw firsthand how deforestation had modified the climate and impacted the fertility of the land. I studied under professors at Messiah College who challenged me to examine the broader impact of my engineering and who demonstrated the stimulation that comes from producing good designs that address environmental issues.

Since graduating from college, I’ve gone backpacking through a number of great natural treasures in the United States, like Yosemite National Park, Glacier National Park, and the Central Cascade Mountains of Washington. Each of these wonders is experiencing the impact of climate change. Saddlebag Lake in Lee Vining, CA has a 10 foot bare “bathtub ring” around its edges - a visible indicator showing how the water is receding from its typical level. The vistas in Glacier National Park have lost more than three quarters of the glaciers that appear in pictures taken in the nineteenth century.

There is undeniable value in the beauty of these places, and I feel sad when I observe the fading glory of natural wonders. But my experience has also raised a practical question – do these environmental changes impact the services that the natural world provides our species for free, like desalination of our drinking water and decomposition of our waste?

My inspiration for my work at In Posse is the belief that good design can attend to the environmental consequences of our building projects – motivated by my personal interest in the preservation of natural beauty and by our common interest in self-preservation.

I love to spend my free time out in the woods. I often go fishing or bird watching. I am inspired by the beauty that I find in nature. It is amazing to see animals in action. I hope that my work can help protect the natural habitats for wildlife so that future generations can enjoy nature and the wildlife.

Cheesy as it is, that building is pretty much the reason I am here. I was taken to this house when I was 10, and as absolutely infatuated with architecture from that point on. As I grew up, I realized that my interests in building design and construction were more rooted in the structural and mechanical aspects then I realized, and when I went to College I entered into an engineering program

My inspiration for committing to sustainable practices began while in college. I participated in a work/study program where I worked at a nylon manufacturing plant outside of Richmond, VA. This experience opened my eyes to how thoughtless people can be about the impact of their actions. This is also the time in which I saw in person what the phrase “the solution to pollution is dilution” really means.

From then on I decided I would consider the effect my actions have on the environment. This inspired me to begin cycling when it was not necessary to drive, to support local agriculture at farmers markets, and to pursue a career where I could make a difference.

My interest in buildings and design began with childhood trips with my grandpa to Chicago. The size of the buildings and the atmosphere of the city fascinated me. I also developed a coinciding love for nature through various camping trips on my path to become an Eagle Scout. My early experiences—with the extremes of untouched nature and the busy city bustle—created two dramatically different views of the earth, and this ultimately led to my pursuit of a degree in architectural engineering.

While in college I realized that I needed to work toward something that I was passionate about and in what I believed in. With this, I knew I had to be working with my degree in a way that would attempt to preserve natural habitats, while improving our daily indoor environments in a positive way - for both the earth and the community.
